Event Description

As part of a collective effort across the Commonwealth among countless service, advocacy, policy, and funding organizations, a movement focused on ensuring access to housing, nutrition, health care coverage and transportation has caused many of us, including the social services system, to seek opportunities for us to do more. As part of this effort, the Virginia Department of Social Services, in partnership with the Federation of Food Banks, will hold a series of town halls across Virginia to gather input from individuals experiencing hunger with organizations helping to solve this crisis. We need many voices and perspectives to participate in the conversation, and I am asking you to help us identify these voices in your community. March town halls are in Newport News on March 25 and Fairfax on March 27. More Town Halls coming in April.
We will gather insight, input and ideas around the experiences and challenges of hunger as well as discuss recommendations for solutions while addressing the needs of individual communities. Insight, ideas and information from the town halls will be used to inform the development and implementation of a blueprint to end hunger in Virginia. Additionally, the blueprint will include sections that focus solely on children, and will be presented to the Children's Cabinet. After the blueprint is developed, we plan to reconvene stakeholders for regional action planning sessions this fall.

If you have any questions, ideas, or suggestions, please contact Andrea Gregg, who is leading our efforts to end hunger in Virginia.
