Multidisciplinary programs that combine the resources of physical, occupational and speech therapists to help individuals who have diseases or injuries that affect the central, peripheral or autonomic nervous systems including the brain, cranial nerves, spinal cord, spinal nerves, optic nerves and other related structures to recover their mobility and ability to communicate or see or develop alternative approaches or skills. Therapy focuses on helping patients to recover physical strength and control; improve their balance; relearn or replace basic motor skills that are needed for dressing, shaving, housekeeping and other activities of daily living; and overcome expressive and receptive language problems or develop alternatives.

An organization whose primary mission relates to Alzheimer’s Disease patient advocacy, education, or direct support programs to address patient specific needs. These organizations may peripherally participate in other activities like legislative advocacy, but patient support is their focus. Programs that help individuals navigate through the maze of the health care system. Personal health care advocates are trained health care workers, often nurses, or volunteers familiar with the health care system who work independently of any health care institution.

Programs that provide assistance in your home with activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming, toileting and mobility support that is provided by paraprofessionals. Food preparation and housekeeping services may or may not be provided by personal care assistants.
