Who We Are

This location houses the administrative offices of Mountain Empire Older Citizens, Inc. (MEOC) which serves as the Area Agency on Aging serving Planning District One. The agency provides many different services to older citizens in their service area. MEOC publishes the Mountain Empire News to keep older citizens informed of all the news concerning MEOC and other important older citizen programs. The agency provides a library of educational materials on all subjects related to older citizens and their special issues.



Family Support Services include Family Caregivers Support, SMILE Program, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, Personal Care Services, KinCare, In Home Respite Services, Homemaker Services, Group Respite Services, Foster Grandparents Program, Alzheimer's Family Support Service, and VICAP (Virginia Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program).



Nutrition and Wellness Services include Cancer Support and Resource Services, Congregate Nutrition Program, Employment Services, Home Delivered Meals, Socialization and Recreation, and the Senior Wellness Initiative.



Elder Rights and Security Services include Elder Abuse Prevention, Emergency Services (Emergency Fuel Fund), Guardianship Services, Legal Services, Long Term Care Ombudsman Program, Personal Emergency Response Services, Pharmacy Connect of Southwest Virginia - A Rx Relief Virginia Initiative, and VICAP (Virginia Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program).



Care Coordination Services include Information and Assessment, Care Coordination, and Service Coordination for local public housing authorities.



MEOC opened one of the first rural PACE (Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly) Programs in the nation.
