Who We Are
The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, an educational institution of the Commonwealth of Virginia, fosters through its living-history museums – Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center – an awareness and understanding of the early history, settlement, and development of the United States through the convergence of Native American, European, and African cultures and the enduring legacies bequeathed to the nation.
Volunteers support the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation in a variety of areas. Some examples of volunteers' activities include: conducting visitor surveys, interpreting history to visitors in the living history areas, compiling mailings and materials for teachers, maintaining and sailing 17th century replica ships, assisting customers in the gift shops and visitor service areas, assembling mats to cover structures in the Powhatan Indian Village, setting up and maintaining computer systems, conducting educational programs, filing, greeting guests at exhibit openings and participation in special events. Primarily for adults and youth ages 12 and above.
