Who We Are
The Volunteer Services Department at Mary Washington Hospital (MWH) coordinate a variety of services and special project needs for anyone interested in volunteering their time and talents to help others. As a volunteer you will have personal satisfaction of helping others, making new friends, learning new skills and staying up-to-date with changes in providing health care.
The largest volunteer group is the MWH Auxiliary, a membership organization providing patient and hospital support, fund-raising and community outreach. The Auxiliary has volunteers in 23 services (includes patient and non-patient areas), including the Gift Shop, the Mary Washington Shoppe. Service opportunities are from Sunday to Saturday with specific time requirement needs. The Auxiliary's annual dues are $5.00.
Volunteers can be assigned to 1) clerical (chart assembling, filing, data entry, assisting with phone coverage); 2) patient contact services (assisting with patient discharge and patient access services (escorting), visitation, newspaper delivery, Red Cross services, or patient representative services; 3) non-patient contact services (ICU waiting room, surgical waiting room and radiology); 4) fund raising services (gift shop, crafts group, Thrift shop and Starbucks coffee shop; or 5) public contact (tour guides, information desk and receptionist).
Complete an application; schedule orientation time (normally on 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month); interview with Manager of Volunteer Services.
