Who We Are
Vital Services Transportation is a program of the LOA Area Agency on Aging (LOA) available to individuals age 60 and older, with low incomes, who have a need for medical transportation to a doctor, pharmacy, dentist, vision location, or grocery store. Individuals are transported by local taxi-cab companies. Individuals must be ambulatory and are transported by local taxi-cab companies. Cost of a trip is based on income and other information.

Residency Requirements
Serves residents of Alleghany, Botetourt, Craig and Roanoke counties and the cities of Clifton Forge, Covington, Roanoke and Salem.
Other Eligibility Criteria
Serves people age 60 and older who meet income requirements and live in Virginia's Fifth Planning District. Cannot own a vehicle and must be able to go from their house to taxi without help.

Intake Process
Call the office and ask for Transportation to enroll. There may be a waiting list. If you qualify for Vital Transportation Services, when your name is at the top of the list, more screening will be done by phone (income information, etc.). A ride request must be made at least 2 and 1/2 business days before your appointment and call before noon.
