Victim/Witness Assistance

Provides support to victims and witnesses of felony crimes throughout the court process, with the goal of reducing their confusion and trauma by explaining the criminal process and providing information and/or services. The purpose of the Victim/Witness Program is: (1) to provide the consideration and personal attention which is due to each witness and victim of a crime; (2) to help assure that victim and witness are informed of the progress of the case in which they are involved; (3) to sensitize criminal justice professionals, the mass media and the community to the need of victims and witnesses of crime; (4) to advocate on behalf of victims and their families by connecting them with local resources that will aid them in their recovery process. (5) to inform victims of their rights under the Virginia Constitution.
