Who We Are
Volunteers are needed to help with client intake, answering phones, sorting and organizing clothing donations, and serving clients in The Coat Closet. During Thanksgiving and Christmas volunteers are needed to help with the Holiday Food Baskets program whereby families receive a complete holiday meal for their family, including the frozen turkey and a roasting pan.
Donations are needed for canned/boxed goods as well as fresh produce and bread to make up the meal. (A detailed flyer is available upon request from GAM). Donations of gently used clothing for men and women is always needed and can be dropped off at the GAM office, located in Colonial Avenue United Methodist Church (1420 Colonial Avenue), during the hours of 9am-3pm, Monday-Friday. Donations of new mensÆ underwear, t-shirts, and white work socks are always needed.
GAM is an ecumenical ministry dedicated to ministering in faith to those in need in the Norfolk community through financial assistance, resources, and services. Those with financial difficulties receive help with rent, utilities, filling of prescriptions/medical needs, food, baby formula/diapers, obtaining IDs, and transportation. In addition, clients can receive assistance from the Coat Closet and the Food Pantry.
